About FRN
Mission
Mobilizing People to Engage in Positive and Meaningful Change.
Vision
Engaged community members working together to make Marshall County a better place to live and work.
History:
In 1990, Governor Gaston Caperton and the West Virginia Legislature created the Governor’s Cabinet on Children and Families. The Cabinet was chaired by the Governor and composed of Cabinet level Secretaries to work together to share resources, build community capacity and develop collaborative partnerships. This vision was then developed at the community level by creating Family Resource Networks. The Marshall County Family Resource Network (FRN) is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 corporation that was established in 1996 by concerned citizens who felt the need to streamline services and build community partnerships to address the needs of Marshall County.
The FRN is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of a diverse group of people with a common focus on empowering families. Representatives of local social service agencies, mental health agencies, educators and health professionals, as well as community representatives and consumers of public services have all come together to ensure that the FRN is deeply in touch with all the needs of and resources in Marshall County.
From a $40,000 grant from the State of West Virginia, we've leveraged more than 3 million dollars in state and federal funds for grassroots, community-based efforts since 2005. We have built valuable partnerships and helped to form committees, groups, and coalitions within the community to help bring positive change to Marshall County.
Through these partnerships, we have worked to create profound results for many issues affecting the community from helping to combat substance abuse and addressing youth health and wellness to working on community development projects and hosting leadership programs.
