FRN Invites Youth in Action

To Participate in Fight against Substance Abuse

MOUNDSVILLE – The Marshall County Family Resource Network is inviting middle- and high-school students to join in a Youth in Action leadership group dedicated to helping to fight substance abuse.

Youth in Action will have its first meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, in the conference room of the Marshall County Family Resource Network, 324 7th St., Moundsville. The idea for Youth in Action originated out of the strong participation from local students in the annual Project Sticker Shock, an event that works to eliminate youth access to alcohol.

“A number of young people have expressed their interest in being a part of a group dedicated to reducing substance abuse,” said Latrisha Whitelatch, substance abuse prevention director at the Marshall County Family Resource Network. “However, they have been unable to find any one group that meets their needs. We’d like to let these young people know that if they’re truly interested in forming such a group, we will support them in their efforts.”

For more information about Youth in Action, please call the Marshall County Family Resource Network at (304) 845-3300.

Parents who are interested in learning tips to help them talk to their children about drugs can attend a forum, sponsored by the Marshall County Anti-Drug Coalition and the Marshall County Family Resource Network, called “Parent to Parent: A Dialogue on How To Talk to Your Kids about Drugs” that will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 1601 1st Street, Moundsville.

The Marshall County FRN builds community partnerships to make Marshall County a better place to live and work. The FRN’s key efforts focus on substance abuse prevention, health and wellness, and community development. It has leveraged more than $2.2 million in state and federal grants to help Marshall County over the past three years.
